Getting to Hoi An

To begin your adventure in Hoi An, you'll need to make your way to this enchanting town. The most convenient way is to fly into Da Nang and then take a taxi or Grab directly to Hoi An. The journey from the airport takes approximately 45 minutes, allowing you to soak in the scenic views of the Vietnamese countryside along the way.

Where to stay in Hoi An

There are a multitude of affordable and convenient options ranging from luxury hotels over homestay villas to hostels. Your choice should be based on the location, you want to be in. Thus you would have to make up your mind whether you want to stay somewhere near Old Town, at the beach or in the rice fields.

Exploring Old Town

Once you've arrived in Hoi An, it's time to dive into the heart of this captivating destination - Old Town. This historic district is brimming with ancient architecture, temples, the iconic yellow houses, and bustling markets. Here are some must-see highlights:

Free Walking Tour and Lanterns at Night

Embark on a free walking tour that will lead you through the narrow streets of the Old Town. You will see ancient town houses that remind you of Hoi Ans past as a major port and a trade center for the entire region and beyond. There you will see how one of Hoi Ans original delicacies is created  by a group of elderly ladies who tirelessly produce hundreds of pork- and shrimp-filled dumplings each day - the famous White Roses. These tasty snacks are then offered in the restaurants all over Hoi An. Another highlight of the tour is the Traditional Art Performance House where you will see a performance with traditional music and dancing.

The tour ends with a visit of the central market where your tour guide will advise you on how to find the best deals and the tastiest local delicacies.

As dusk settles over Old Town, the lanterns illuminate the pathways, creating an enchanting atmosphere like no other. Take your time strolling through these charming streets and let yourself be mesmerized by their beauty.

Don't forget to haggle for the best prices and try some of the delectable street food offerings or head to one of the stalls at the river front and enjoy fresh lobsters and other sea food dishes cooked right in front of your eyes.

These delicate dumplings are filled with minced shrimp or pork and wrapped in translucent rice paper. Steamed to perfection and served with a dipping sauce made from fish sauce, garlic, chili peppers, and lime juice – they make for an exquisite appetizer or snack.
